D.C. 20301-4000 JUl 25 2003 PERSONNEL AND READINESS MEMORANDUM FOR DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE ARMY (HUMAN RESOURCES) DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE NA VY (MILITARY PERSONNELPOLICY) DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE AIR FORCE (FORCEMANAGEMENT AND PERSONNEL) SUBJECT: Memorandumof Understanding betweenDepartmentof Defenseand Departmentof Labor On July 11, 2003, the Secretariesof the Department of Defense and the Department of Labor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (copy attached) to promote cooperativeefforts betweenthe two Departments improve the quality of life to for Servicemembersand their families and to contribute to the quality of the American labor force. This Memorandumof Understanding providesthe framework for a broadrangeof continuing and new partnershipefforts betweenthe Departments easere-entry into the to civilian workforce and ensuremilitary skills are translatedinto civilian employment. The Memorandum of Understanding will help military spousesestablish careers despite having to transition among job markets due to frequent relocations. It will also strengthen Labors
