Content Inside: California State University San Bernardino Career Development Center Government Jobs Working for the government at the city, county, state, or federal level can be a very rewarding experience, but the process to get there can be overwhelming, tedious, and very competitive. Many positions will require applicants to fill out a lengthy application, take an exam, undergo an extensive background check, and go through an intense panel interview. Some students choose to ONLY apply to government jobs because they are looking for a secure position with good benefits, but because the process is so cumbersome, the hiring process is slow, and being chosen for a position is highly competitive, it is recommended that students also apply to private, non profit, and community organizations to ensure they have a job upon graduation.
