The competing claims in this marketplace have always been bewildering. Do antioxidants work better than alpha hydroxy acids to make skin smooth? Can lavender or aloe vera erase wrinkles? The confusion has grown with the introduction of products advertised as alternatives to medical procedures like Botox or collagen injections and eye lifts. Advertisements for Olay Regenerist Eye, for example, promote it as a way to obtain "dramatically younger looking eyes without surgery," specifically eye lifts. Ads for StriVectin-SD ask, "Better than Botox?" Other creams hint at a connection to Botox with names like Avotox, Serutox and Firma-Taux.
