Swami Vivikenanda (1863-1902) Vivikenanda is credited with introducing Yoga and Vedanta [Vedanta: a school of philosophy within Hinduism dealing with the nature of reality] to the United States at the World Parliament in 1893 in Chicago. He was very charismatic and charmed the people at the convention. He spoke about Raja Yoga, or the Royal Path, which contains within it hatha yoga or the practice of asana.
